Simple Beef Spag Bol
Brilliant for weeknights and slurp-tastic for adults and children alike. Rustle up a simply perfect spag bol with a rich meaty sauce topped with lashings of melty cheddar and fresh basil. Dinner is served!
Ingredients
- 190g spaghetti †
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 15ml Henderson's Relish
- 11g beef stock mix
- 250g British beef mince
- 16g tomato paste
- 1 carrot
- 200g canned tomato frito
- 5g basil
- 40g cheddar cheese †
- 2 garlic cloves
- 8ml soy sauce †
- 1 brown onion
Instructions
- Boil a kettlePeel and finely chop the brown onion[s]Top, tail, peel and finely chop the carrot[s]
- Heat a large, wide-based pan (preferably non-stick) with a drizzle of olive oil over a medium-high heatOnce hot, add the chopped onion and carrot with a pinch of salt and cook for 3-4 min or until beginning to soften
- Peel and finely chop (or grate) the garlic.
- Once the onion and carrot are beginning to soften, add the beef mince to the pan and increase the heat to highCook for 3-4 min further or until browned all over, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as you go
- While the beef mince is cooking, add the spaghetti to a pot of boiled water with a large pinch of salt and bring to the boil over a high heatCook the spaghetti for 8-10 min or until cooked with a slight bite then drain and return to the pot until servingMeanwhile, dissolve the beef stock mix, Henderson’s Relish and soy sauce in 100ml [200ml] boiled water – this is your stock.
- Add the chopped garlic, tomato paste, stock, tomato frito, dried basil and dried oregano to the panSeason with a grind of black pepper, bring to the boil over a high heat and cook for 4-5 min further or until thickened – this is your beef bolognese
- Chop the basil finely, including the stalksGrate the cheddar cheeseServe the beef bolognese over the spaghettiTop with the grated cheese and chopped basil and enjoy!.
